Master´s Degree in Biomolecules and Cell Dynamics

Newborn granullar hippocampal neuron

The Master's Degree in Biomolecules and Cell Dynamics of the UAM is intended to prepare students to develop a research career in the field of Molecular and Cell Biology, and its applications. Its objective is to train professionals with both a deep knowledge of the structures and molecular processes of cells and the ability to use experimental and computational tools for study. During their Master studies, students will develop a research project, for which the Master has the support of recognized research groups of the UAM as well as the most prestigious research centres in the country. In addition, this Master has a panel of faculty experts in specific areas of Biochemistry and Molecular and Cell Biology. Finally, this Master also allows to access to a PhD program to students interested in a research career.

The educational objectives of the Master in Biomolecules and Cell Dynamics are:

  • To acquire a scientific spirit of critical and self-critical reasoning.
  • To acquire the ability to design an innovative research project in the area of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
  • To be able to select appropriate techniques and experimental approaches in the area of Molecular and Cellular Biology methodologies.
  • To acquire a deep understanding of cutting-edge issues in the area of Molecular and Cell Biology that allows to face new scientific challenges.
  • To acquire the ability to search, analyse and manage scientific information in the area of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
  • To develop the skills and abilities to perform experimental work in a laboratory in the field of Molecular and Cell Biology.
  • To know how to communicate orally and in writing the results of research for peer review.
  • To acquire the knowledge and skills in the use of modern statistical techniques for data analysis in Molecular Biosciences.
  • To understand the relationship between structure and function of macromolecules and their complexes, and resolve related technical and scientific issues.
  • To develop the ability to effectively communicate scientific advances in the field of Molecular and Cell Biology, as well as their ethical and social implications to a non-specialised audience.
  • To acquire the skills needed to continue learning throughout life, in an autonomous and self-directed manner.
  • To gain a strong training base to start a research career through the completion of PhD in universities, research centres or companies within the field of Molecular and Cell Biology.

The Postgraduate Programme in Molecular Biosciences to which this Master belongs to has received the recognition and support from the Internationalization Programme "Campus of International Excellence UAM+CSIC"
