Resumen/Abstract
 

A survey of some learning and pattern recognition methods with emphasis on neural networks, logic programming, immune networks, grammatical inference and reconstruction of stochastic processes.


Curriculum ponente
 

Rui Vilela Mendes, received an Electrical Engineering degree from the Technical University (IST)- Lisbon, a Ph. D. in Physics from the University of Texas (Austin) and an Habilitation in Mathematics from the University of Lisbon (UL). He is currently a researcher at the CMAFCIO - University of Lisbon and collaborator of the Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion (IPFN-IST) as well as a member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. He has been a visiting researcher and professor at CERN, CNRS (Marseille), IHES (Bures), Univ. of Bielefeld, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and co-organizer and collaborator of several international research projects on Applied Mathematics, Physics and the Sciences of Complexity. Over the last few decades has worked in the areas of applied mathematics, mathematical economics, nonlinear dynamics and control, stochastic processes and quantum theory. The current research interests center on applied mathematics, signal processing, mathematical economics and the dynamics of complex systems.
