Registering for internships

When do I register for the Internship course, and how many credits may I register for?

Bachelor’s in Economics and Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management
You may register for up to 18 elective credits. We recommend that you not register for the course until you have found a company in which to do your internship and agreed on the number of hours you will work (20 hours = 1 credit). You will be able to register later during the extra registration periods that the Academic-Administrative Office establishes for internship registration (see dates of the extra periods below).

IMPORTANT:

  • If the internship course is the only course you only have left to register for, you should register during the ordinary registration period. Remember that you must be a student at the UAM in order to do an internship.
  • If you did the internship in the summer, you may register for this course at the same time as you register in the other courses for your study programme.

Bachelor’s in Techniques of Market Research
You may register for up to 12 elective credits.

Diploma in Tourism

  • Internship: you must register in this core course during the same registration period that you register for the other courses for your Diploma. Remember that this course is a yearly course. This means that it can only be evaluated in two grading periods (July and September). If you wish to receive your grade in February, consult the Academic-Administrative Office about how to request your grade in advance.
  • You may also register for up to 6 elective credits (20 hours = 1 credit). You may register for these credits at the same time as the Internship or afterward, in the extra registration periods that the Academic-Administrative Office establishes for internship registration (see dates of the extra periods below).
  • If you did the internship in the summer, you may register for this course at the same time as you register in the other courses for your study programme.

Extra registration period for company internships at the Academic-Administrative Office (Academic year 2011/2012):

  • January 9 to May 4, 2012, for grade to be included in February, June or September semester of your transcript.

How many hours should my internship be?
Each credit for which you register represents 20 hours of work at the company (20 hours = 1 credit).

Further, independently of the number of credits that the student needs, the minimum number of hours for Internships is 180 for students in Business Administration and Management, Economics, and Techniques of Market Research; and 240 hours for students in Tourism. In general, the maximum number of internship hours to be completed during the academic year is 500 for all internships.

The hours of the internship should be compatible with the student’s class schedule. This generally means that the student may only work a maximum of 5 hours a day when classes are in session and up to 8 hours daily when classes are not in session.
