Specialization in Cardiovascular Pharmacology

Hypoxia and vascular pathology

Cardiovascular effects of intermittent chronic hypoxia: Intermittent and chronic hypoxia can lead to pathologies such as high-altitude pulmonary hypertension in residents or workers at sea level. Other cardiovascular changes also occur that are shared with other common medical conditions that occur with hypoxia (obstructive sleep apnea) such as systemic hypertension. The objective of this line is to determine the changes caused by the hypoxia conditions referred to in high-strength vessels (coronary bed vessels), in low-strength vessels (pulmonary bed) and in peripheral resistance vessels). Various study techniques such as vascular reactivity and confocal microscopy will be used.
