Master’s Degree in Innovation, Evaluation and Quality in Physical Education

This master’s degree does not taught in the 2015-2016 academic course due to the implementation of the new Master’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.

  • Aims

     

    1. To perfect and update the scientific and technical training of professionals in the field of sports and physical education.

    2. To promote the creation, dissemination and use of innovative proposals in response to current challenges and needs in physical education.

    3. To provide resources and procedures for assessment systems that are more in line with the teaching and learning processes in physical education.

    4. To provide the necessary skills and attitudes for life long professional practice, and to encourage autonomous, thoughtful, critical and responsible physical education professionals.

    5. To increase verbal and written communication skills, team working skills, and interaction of physical education teachers with other professionals and social agents.

    6. To provide basic training in physical education and sports to students wishing to further their training in this field.

    7. To develop skills for solving problems related with social changes and needs that can be approached from physical education and the educational centre environment, as social transformation agents.

    8. To boost the development of skills and attitudes oriented toward leading collective professional development projects, and to transfer progress made to society.

    9. To encourage the acquisition of life-long professional and personal learning strategies and attitudes.

     

    Skills (General and Specific skills: CG and ES) and professional training:

     

    CG1. To apply acquired knowledge in a reasoned manner to solving problems in the field of physical education, in new or unfamiliar environments, in a more general context, contributing innovative ideas as required in each situation.

    CG2. Integrating knowledge to form judgements and establish plans of action with regard to a given situation pertaining to the field of physical education, carrying these out and assessing the consequences of such actions, paying special attention and thought to the social and ethical responsibilities deriving therefrom.

    CG3. Communicating to specialized and unspecialized audiences, in a clear, unambiguous manner, the knowledge gained, the results from analyses and the reasoning used to justify the decisions taken.

    CG4. Drawing up adequately and with originality written compositions or reasoned arguments, work plans, projects, articles, etc. on theoretical and practical questions relating to physical education.

    CG5. Working with autonomy during the learning phase and professional practice in the field of physical education, and to display the skills and attitudes that indicate the capacity to become a self sufficient professional.

    CG6. Assess, design and lead own projects and actions or those proposed from organizations or companies, with relation to the relevant professional skills, and defined within social or personal requirements, or those of groups with special needs.

     

    Specific skills

     

    CE1. To reflect and reason independently and on solid grounds on education as a cultural practice developed through history which produces and reproduces ideology, and incorporates economic, social and political interests.

    CE2. To identify current social demands for physical education and to argue, in a critical and reasoned manner, on the educational value of this discipline and on its potential in contributing to personal and social development and wellbeing.

    CE3. To understand and analyse each different approach to physical education reflected in the curriculums in other cultural contexts, their premises, and the psychopedagogical and sociological implications of adopting one curricular model or another.

    CE4. To apply the official physical education curriculum as a reference framework to draw up, in a critical and independent manner, proposals and programmes for innovative actions that are adequate for each context and each audience.

    CE5. To employ innovative practices in response to current physical education challenges and foment knowledge in physical education and promoting healthy lifestyles.

    CE6. To select, design and gauge the difficulties and complexities of activities through adapting them to the rules applicable to them, and modifying the elements or factors that determine their degree of difficulty and complexity.

    CE7. To diversify and adjust activities, methods, techniques and intervention strategies, according to initial knowledge, cognitive-motor skills, learning attitudes and rhythms, in order to ensure that a meaningful learning process takes place.

    CE8. To be familiar with and apply assessment procedures and instruments adequately in each stage, situation and outcome throughout the teaching-learning process, drawing up and developing a physical education curriculum or a social-cultural intervention programme.

    CE9. To adopt independent, reflexive, critical and searching attitudes towards one’s own professional practice, valuing the importance of assuming such attitudes to improve quality in processes and one’s professional development.

    CE10. To value the importance of collectively planning and developing intervention processes, from the basis of common project, and to adopt deliberation and teamworking habits with colleagues.

    CE11. To advise groups and lead processes aimed at setting educational and training projects in motion of an innovative nature, in formal and informal contexts.

    CE12. To assume a favourable attitude toward evaluation and, if applicable, modifying intervention programmes in physical education, through self-evaluation techniques and peer review.

    CE13. To contribute, from the specific field of physical education, physical activity and sports, to prevention techniques in health and to improving quality of life.

    CE14. To establish dynamics in population groups leading to attitudes and knowledge oriented toward active and healthy lifestyles.

     

    Specific skills in the professional pathway

     

    CE15. To analyse, in the school context, and through personal and collective reflection, the social, normative and cultural factors allowing or limiting innovation in physical education teaching, and to act in consequence on curricular planning. 

    CE16. To find ways of using the didactic resources of physical education in an original and creative manner to enhance teaching-learning processes and the achievement of educational and social goals.

    CE17. To apply innovative ideas to solving problems specific to teaching physical education, assess their feasibility and improve them.

    CE18. To write up reports on the result of applying innovative proposals, giving justification for the need to do so, describing their content and presenting the results and potential for improvement.

     

    Skills specific to the research pathway

     

    CE19. To learn the main paradigms of research, its fundaments and characteristics, and the most prominent lines of research today in the field of physical education and education in physical activity and sports.

    CE20. To learn and use the basic information gathering methods, techniques, procedures and instruments most appropriate in physical and sports activities education research.

    CE21. To design, write up and put into practice research projects meeting all the requirements research projects are normally bound to comply with through each of their phases.

    CE22. To communicate, clearly and with rigour, the results and conclusions of research projects to social agents for their proper use according to the purposes and aims that inspired them.

    • Applications for admission submitted for the 2015-2016 academic course will be transferred to the new Master's Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.

    Accession and Admission Requirements

    The general conditions for accession and admissions are governed by the UAM postgraduate studies regulations. To be eligible for admission to the Master’s Degree in Education Quality and Improvement, students must hold an official Spanish university degree. Likewise, applicants holding a university degree from foreign education systems are not required to validate their qualifications, provided they accredit a level of studies equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university titles and that such qualifications, in the country of issue, allow the holder access to postgraduate studies.

     

    Specific Requirements

    For admission to Master may apply all those who have completed the Bachelor of Science in Physical Activity and Sport, BA in Physical Education or Diploma in Teacher - Physical Education Specialist, and, in the future, which have completed undergraduate equivalents.

    An application for admission to the Master is open to people with degrees from foreign universities that meet the general requirements for access to graduate programs have completed training related to Physical Education and Sport.

     

    As general criteria for selection of students in this Master, the Department Graduate Committee will consider the degree and the academic record of the applicant, his academic career and pre-professional (internships) related to the Master, and professional experience.
