The Museum

 


  This museum has a didactic and university character fundamentally, although the beauty and modernity of its facilities, as well as the quality and representativeness of some of their units make of the greater attention on the part of collectors and fans deserving. In the sample of simple and pleasant way the formation, way of crystallization and utility of each mineral, and even some particular properties as it is the case of the luminescence, sufficiently attractive aspects to animate to see it and to enjoy it.

  History = > the museum was inaugurated in 1971 and, until today, it maintains an excellent conservation. The initiative for the creation of the same one was of Don Julio Rodriguez Martinez, University professor of Mineralogy. From the functional point of view the dowry of the museum, must to a large extent to the work of harvesting and interchange of unit carried out by Don Carlos Diaz Mauriño. Recently, professor Maria Asunción Millán Changoyen (present director) has managed the acquisition and study of other units.

  Characteristics = > is in the fourth plant of building C-VI of the Faculty of Sciences of the UAM and to him all the people can accede freely who wish to visit it. In many occasions she is used as educational and investigating complement of the mineralogy classes, in order formed the students of the diverse specialties of the UAM . The surface of the room is of 200 ms 2 , of rectangular plant, with good natural and artificial illumination. A new thing that you can see is the map and the minerals situated in theirs display cabinets.

  Display cabinets = > the museum is equipped with 7 tables display cabinets in which typical units of the practices are exposed, with 24 display cabinets murals, of three shelves each one in where the most spectacular units and of an equipped dark luminiscence display cabinet with fluorescent tubes of short wave are exposed and releases, for the observation with some minerals that have the property of being fluorescent.
