EDGE-Madrid

Portuguese and Spanish node of the European Research Training Network

European Differential Geometry Endeavour

First meeting RTGF
(Red Temática de Geometría y Física)

Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid, 24-28 November 2003

Organizing committee: Oscar García-Prada (CSIC), César Gómez (CSIC-UAM), Tomás L. Gómez (UCM), Angel Uranga (CSIC-UAM).

Main themes. The first meeting of the RTGF will focus on the interplay between gauge theory, algebraic geometry and string theory.

Invited speakers: Nigel Hitchin (Oxford), Ruben Minasian (Ecole Polytechnique, Paris), Peter Newstead (Liverpool and CSIC-Madrid), Christoph Schweigert (Hamburg), Richard Thomas (Imperial College, London).

The meeting will take place at a conference and residence hall called "La Cristalera", at 2 Km. from Miraflores de la Sierra, a small village located 50 Km. north of Madrid. All the participants will be accommodated in this residence. La Cristalera will open on Monday 24th at noon. and will close on Friday 28 after lunch. This means that accommodation at this residence will not be possible outside these dates. There will be lunch served at 13.30 on Monday 24th and Friday 28th. Details on how to get to "La Cristalera" will be given later.

Programme. The programme will consist of two talks in the morning, and two talks in the afternoon - this will allow plenty of time for interaction. Talks will start on Monday 24th in the afternoon (the first talk will exceptionaly start at 17.00). The last talk on Friday 28th will end at 13.00.

Financial support. Although funds are rather limited, the organizers will try their best to cover local expenses for all participants. Travel expenses are expected to be covered by the participants.

Contributions/registration. If you wish to offer a talk, please send a title and an abstract. The Organizing Committe will make the final selection of talks. To apply to attend the meeting, please fill in this form and send it by email to oscar.garcia-prada@uam.es before 31 October 2003.

Geometry and Physics

Luminy, 13-17 October 2003

Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques

The aim of this conference is to introduce non experts to recent developments in such topics as gauge theory and non commutative gauge theory. Interactions with physics will be emphasized. The conference will start on Monday 13th October at 9:30 and will end on Friday 17th October at 12:30. Wednesday afternoon will be free.

People who wish to attend should fill in the registration form and send it to BOTH organizers before the 31st July 2003. At the beginning of September, the organizers will send to the CIRM the list of participants together with their e-mail addresses. Then the CIRM will get in touch with each participant. Various informations about the CIRM including accomodation and the cost are available on the site: http://www.cirm.univ-mrs.fr/

Invited speakers: A. Connes, R. Dijkgraaf, J. Figueroa O'Farril, N. Hitchin, D. Kreimer, H. Moscovici, N. Nekrasov, A. Schwarz, A. Weinstein.

Mini courses will be given by A. Connes and N. Nekrasov.

A limited number of slots will be available for people that wish to offer a talk. A title and abstract (on which the selection of talks will be based) should be provided at the time of the registration.

Financial support is very limited and preference will be given to young researchers.

This meeting is supported by the European Research Training Networks Geometric Analysis and European Differential Geometry Endeavour. Members of these two networks, particularly young researchers, are encouraged to apply to their corresponding nodes for financial support.

Organizers: Eric Leichtnam and Oscar García-Prada.
