FULL PROFESSOR OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY pppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
M. Carmen Carreño was born in Madrid in 1950. She studied Chemistry at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and she received her PhD in 1978 under the supervision of the late Professor Francisco Fariña at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). After a three-year period working on conformational analysis of sulfur compounds with Professor José Luis García Ruano (UAM), she began working on asymmetric synthesis with sulfoxides. In 1984 she become Associate Professor at UAM and in 2005 she assumed her present position of Full Professor at the same university.
She has been visiting Professor at the Ecole Européenne de Chimie, Polymères et Matériaux (ECPM), Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg (France) and University of East Anglia, Norwich (UK). Since 1990 she has been Associate Professor at the ECPM. Her current research interests include organic synthesis and mechanistic aspects of diastereoselective reactions, asymmetric total synthesis of natural products and new chiral materials lacking stereogenic centers.
