1. October 1992ARCHAEOFAUNA
is born in the hope of being able to publish yearly papers of archaeozoological
nature, in the widest acception of the term (i.e. historical, ethnological,
chemical, etc...) not just in the strictly biological one. Moreover, in
contrast with the norm of similar journals, ARCHAEOFAUNA will also try
to publish complete or condensed "bone reports". The archaeozoological
"building" besides techniques and methodologies, rests upon hundreds, perhaps
thousands of faunal analysis which, in most cases, are never published.
In this context, methods constitute, in an analogical comparison, the pillars
of our building while techniques are its software (switches, cables,etc...)
and faunal analysis the hardware (i.e. the bricks). If the latter remain
unknown, one of the most time-consuming tasks of any archaeozoologist will
seem useless.
ARCHAEOFAUNA
has meant a lot of work for those of us which have been dreaming with it
for years. As a partial tribute for this effort, our first issue will try
to give an overview, however biased, of archaeozoological research in Spain
and, in particular, of research carried out by people at the Laboratory
which has sponsored the journal.
