From October 3rd to 11th 1995, the Laboratorio de Arqueozoología of  U.A.M. hosted the eigth Meeting of the I.C.A.Z. Fish Remains Working Group under the title «Ichthyoarchaeology: Fishes and the Archaeological Record». At the close of the conference, the attendants decided that the Proceedings should be published by ARCHAEOFAUNA. Adhering to our original October 1996 publication deadline, this volume of ARCHAEOFAUNA, therefore, contains a selection of edited papers from the conference. Some papers that were submitted late or received a lot of editorial feedback had to be omitted; if their authors agree, these papers will be published in ARCHAEOFAUNA number 6, to be published in October 1997. We thank our colleagues, the referees and the authors for their patience, suggestions and comments. Your commitment has helped make ARCHAEOFAUNA a solid publication in its field.
