ABSTRACT

The development of autonomy and conflict resolution are primary educational goals for peaceful co-existence and personal growth. Through systematic observation and a log-linear model, this study shows how children in the first years of primary school show low levels of autonomy, a great difficulty in solving conflicts and great cognitive and emotional dependence on adults. This situation may continue in later years, so it is essential that students get used to facing conflictive situations, since these help in the process of individuation and the development of social skills. Also,  it is important that children become responsible in their learning, fostering their ability to confront different points of view,  and discuss and appreciate mutual agreements.
