Tuesday 24 November will see the official opening of the "UNICEF-Joaquín Ruiz Giménez" bibliographic funds donated by the Spanish Committee for UNICEF to the UAM through the UAM-UNICEF University Institute for the Needs and Rights of Children and Adolescents (IUNDIA), located in the library of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education.
The event will also celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the approval by the General Assembly of the United Nations of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the tenth anniversary of IUNDIA. It will also include a brief tribute to Mr. Joaquín Ruiz-Giménez, who among many other things, founded IUNDIA through UNICEF and was made a Doctor Honoris Causa by UAM's Faculty of Law of UAM.
The event will consist of two parts, to take place from 16:45 to 19:00, in the conference hall of the Faculty of Economic Sciences: In the first part the bibliographic funds shall be officially opened in virtual mode, there will be a brief homage to Joaquín Ruiz-Jiménez and a catalogue of the funds published by the UAM will be presented. Official guests at the event will include Mr. José María Sanz (Vice-chancellor of the UAM), Mr. Enrique Múgica (Ombudsperson), Ms. Consuelo Crespo (President of the Spanish Committee for UNICEF), Mr. Juan Mato (Director General for Social Policy, Children and Family Affairs of the Ministry of Health and Social Policy), Mr. Santiago Fernández Conti (Director of the Library and Archive Service) and Ms. Esperanza Ochaita, Director of IUNDIA. In the second part of the event there will be a talk on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, given by Mr. Víctor Soler-Sala, a retired United Nations civil servant, an expert on UNICEF's international work and current member of the Board of Trustees of the Spanish Committee for UNICEF. There will then be a question and answer session with Mr. Soler Sala, Ms Angeles Espinosa, member of the IUNDIA Permanent Committee and Deputy Vice-chancellor of Campus and Environmental Quality, and Esperanza Ochaíta.
