Last Wednesday 11 November, the Vice-Chancellor of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, José María Sanz, and the Chairman of PromoMadrid, Jesús Sainz, presented the “PromoMadrid China-EU School of Law 2010” scholarship programme. The programme gives twelve lawyers the opportunity of training in Chinese investment law and establishing contacts with Chinese institutions, companies and professionals. Of the twelve scholarships on offer, eight will be awarded to experienced lawyers pursuing their professional activity in the Madrid Region. The remaining four will be given to young law graduates from Madrid universities.
The scholarship programme was created as a result of the collaboration between Promomadrid and the Faculty of Law of the UAM, two institutions which have joined forces to train professionals working in the Madrid Region in innovative areas of international law. José María Sanz did not hesitate in praising the initiative: “I would like to thank PromoMadrid for their support of the China-Europe Faculty of Law, of which the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, as joint founder, is particularly proud, and which is part of the UAM's commitment to internationalisation”. Jesús Sainz also highlighted the importance of such training courses: “Because of their excellent reputation, they add to the international prestige and preparedness of professionals from the region's legal sector”. The Dean of the Faculty of Law of the UAM, Javier Díez-Hochleitner, explained that the China-EU School of Law project was set up by a consortium of European and Chinese universities with funding from the European Commission, an institution in which the UAM plays an important part.
The scholarship holders will attend a course at the China-EU School of Law in Beijing called Relevant Fields in Chinese Law for European Foreign Investment in China, to be held in Beijing in April 2010, which will be followed by a programme of activities and contacts to enable students to become acquainted with the different aspects of legal and business practice in China.
