The institutes and centres undertake activities which are complementary to those of the faculties and colleges, either in the field of research or teaching. In addition to the institutes approved in accordance with art. 10 of the LRU, the institutes and centres may be: UAM institutes or centres or attached to the UAM, inter-university centres (created in collaboration with one or number of other universities) and mixed (created in collaboration with other public or private institutions). All must be approved by the Board of Governors and favourably informed by the plenary session of the Social Board for their transfer to the Madrid Region.
