Admission and enrolment

Information regarding the admission procedure can be obtained by consulting this website or writing to the Centre of Postgraduate Studies (Centro de Estudios de Posgrado) of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Cost of the master:

To give an orientation, in the academic year 2018-2019, the ordinary fee of the master was 2,701.20 euros for students from the European Union or residents in Spain (45.02 euros per ECTS credit) and 5,044.20 euros for other students (84.07 euros per ECTS credit), not including administrative fees, medical insurance etc. Please note, however, that this information is granted without any guarantee. The complete and detailed information on the official master fees of the UAM can be found here.

Admission requirements:

  • Background knowledge: The Master in International Economics is open to students of different academic backgrounds. However, it is competitive and, in general, we require students to have obtained good or very good grades in theoretical as well as quantitative courses at the undergraduate level (especially in microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, statistics and econometrics).
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Although not obligatory, we strongly encourage prospective students (especially those who have not graduated in economics) to take the GRE exam and to send us their exam results. Please note that the Designated Institution (DI) Code assigned to the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is 3792.
  • English: CEFR level of at least B2 is required. For example, the minimum IELTS score that is required is 5.5 and that of the TOEFL iBT 72. This document contains a list of accepted official certificates. It is essential to present an official certificate; an affidavit is not enough.
  • Choice of track: The choice of track (professional or research-oriented) is revocable; that is, the student admitted to the programme may change the track once the master starts. Students pursuing the professional track do their internships in institutions or companies, whereas those pursuing the research-oriented track take a course on research techniques and write a more extensive master thesis (which they will also have to present before an audience). Independently of the chosen track, students who complete the master are eligible for the PhD programme in Economics and Business.
