Resume CV
  • Bachelor of Physics Science. Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2003) Doctor in Physics Science. Universidad Autónoma of Madrid (2009) My research line is focused on the fields of Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM). Main goals of this research field are to develop new characterization methodologies based on Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to understand the new materials phenomena (e.g low dimensional effects). I started my research activity at the Optical, Transport and Magnetic Properties department of the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM-CSIC, Spain), under the supervision of Dr. Agustina Asenjo in 2004. I worked on the development of a Variable Field Magnetic Force Microscopy (VF- MFM). This system allowed us to characterize different materials like well-ordered electrodeposited nanowire arrays into the porous of anodic alumina templates, lithography nanostructures, ferromagnetic antidot arrays or magnetic thin films. This VF-MFM was developed in collaboration with Nanotec Electronica S.L. and it was the first set up in Spain. During the PhD I visited several times the IFW laboratory of Kerr Effect Microscopy in Dresden (Germany) in order to broaden my scientific knowledge and experimental capabilities. Also I had an active participation in several projects in collaboration with different groups. In 2009 I joined the Nanoforces group at the Condensed Matter Physics Department at UAM under the supervision of Prof. J. Gómez- Herrero for a four years postdoctoral stay. My work was focused on the study of mechanical and electrical properties with a home-made Variable Temperature- Variable Pressure AFM of carbon based materials, such as highly oriented pirolitic graphite (HOPG), graphene oxide (GO) or graphene. I acquired experience in the Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy technique (KPFM), Nanoindentation Method with AFM or in the fabrication of graphene monolayers by mechanical exfoliation or by chemical route based on the oxidation of graphite, and subsequent reduction of graphene oxide (rGO).
  • In this stage, I improved my skills on the development of new advanced modes of AFM. I have developed a combination of KPFM with MFM to study materials with weak magnetic signal and/or high electrostatic interactions (this method is called E+MFM and now it is implemented in the commercial systems of Nanotec Electronica S.L.). Also we have developed a new imaging mode, Drive Amplitude Modulation (DAM) with outstanding performance in all environments from vacuum to liquids. This method is patented. It is the first patent licensed worldwide by a group of physical from UAM. Recently (January 2017), I joined again the Group of Nanomagnetism and Magnetization Processes (GNMP) at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM). I am leading a project based on the study of the dissipation process and the application of the MFM for biological samples.
