Training Activities

Training Activities

The PhD Programme in Economics and Business provides for three types of training activities: research seminars and workshops, presentation of papers at national and international scientific conferences, and research stays at national and international centres. The first two are compulsory for all students, both full-time and part-time.

Full-time and part-time students may attend training activities at any time during their training, in particular seminars and research workshops.

1. Attendance at seminars and research workshops

During the first year and first semester of the second year, students will participate in seminars and workshops that will provide them with the necessary preparation to engage in preparatory research tasks, such as identification of the state of the art, useful tools for the creation of synthesis papers, reflection, establishment of research hypotheses, etc., in particular students should acquire the competences associated with the workshops that will be given on:

  • Searching for bibliographic resources and using information sources
  • Computer tools
  • Qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Continuous research seminar

During the second semester of the second and third year, doctoral students must acquire new skills aimed at scientific production and its dissemination, and it is therefore recommended that they take part in the seminars and workshops that will be given on:

  • Research methodology
  • Publication strategies
  • Ethics and good practice in scientific research
  • Permanent research seminar

At the same time as these seminars and workshops, doctoral students will be able to complete their training by attending seminars programmed by the departments and official master's degrees related to their field of research specialisation.

In addition to the courses, seminars and workshops specific to the Doctoral Programme, the Faculty, the Departments and the Official Master's Degrees develop their own seminar programmes which doctoral students are free to attend. Students on the programme may also attend seminars organised in the centres where they carry out research stays and in academic centres of recognised prestige.

2. Presentation of papers at national or international scientific congresses

Doctoral students on the Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business must participate in at least one national or international scientific conference during the duration of their doctoral thesis. The contribution to the conference may consist of a paper or a poster.

3. Visits to national and international institutions

The PhD Programme in Economics and Business recommends that students undertake at least one 3-month stay in a research centre other than the one where the thesis is being carried out during their PhD. For part-time students, the division of the stay in several periods may be considered valid if it is necessary to be compatible with their work activity.

The calendar of training activities will be published at the beginning of each academic year.
