Kostis Kornetis es Doctor en Historia Contemporánea (EUI, 2006). Entre 2007 y 2012 fue Visiting Assistant Professor en el departamento de historia la Universidad Brown y entre 2012 y 2015 fue Visiting Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow en el Centro de Estudios Europeos y Mediterráneos de la New York University. Entre 2015 y 2018 ha trabajado como investigador postdoctoral CONEX-Marie Curie Experienced Fellow en el departamento de Historia y Geografía de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. En 2018-19 ha sido Santander Fellow en Estudios Ibéricos en St Antony’s College de la Universidad de Oxford. En el año 2019-20 ha impartido docencia como Teaching Fellow en la Universidad de Sheffield y como Lecturer en NYU Londres.
Ha ganado el premio de mejor enseñanza con nuevos medios en Brown University (2010), de mejor proyecto digital para docentes (Dariah) en Lausanne (2013), y el premio Edmund Keely de la Asociación de Estudios Helénicos de los EEUU para la mejor monografía (“Children of the Dictatorship”, Nueva York y Oxford, 2013).
Su investigación se ha centrado en la historia de las dictaduras en el sur europeo y los movimientos sociales del siglo XX, especialmente alrededor del 1968 y los ‘largos años 60’. Asimismo, ha publicado reflexiones teóricas sobre la historia transnacional, la historia oral y la relación entre historia y cine. Su línea de investigación más reciente se centra en la llamada historia del tiempo presente y analiza la historia de las transiciones democráticas en España, Portugal y Grecia y la memoria colectiva construida alrededor de ellas.
