The UAM Department of Psychiatry at the Medical School provides specific undergraduate teaching in the following degrees: Medicine, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Science and Technology, Biomedical Engineering, and Nursing.
The UAM Department of Psychiatry is firmly committed to the training of health care professionals, underlying the importance of acquiring communication skills with patients and understanding health conditions from a biopsychosocial perspective. In addition to the undergraduate training, the Department provides extensive postgraduate training in the Faculty of Medicine's PhD programme in Medicine and Surgery and in continuing education studies for health care professionals.
In addition, the UAM Department of Psychiatry is involved in different research activities through its participation in international and national projects obtained in competitive calls. The results of these studies are disseminated in numerous scientific publications in international high-impact journals.
In 2012, the Department of Psychiatry was designated by the World Health Organization as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Services Research and Training, renewing its membership each four years since then.
