Descripción del servicio

Any IT equipment connected to the Internet must have a UNIQUE ID, the IP number, which has the form a.b.c.d, where a, b, c and d are numbers between 0 and 255. For example, 92.68.150.211

To avoid duplication, Information Technologies manages the assignment of IP numbers to the equipment to be connected to the UAM data network
(IP registration), as well as transfers (changing the location of equipment) and replacements (change of equipment in the same place).

To facilitate Internet use, each ‘IP number’ is associated with an ‘IP name’ (most people find it easier to remember www.uam.es than 150.244.9.195). Obviously, this IP name must also be unique within the network, there are rules regarding IP name selection. The ‘translation’ between IP name and IP number is carried out by the most frequently used and least known network service, the DNS (Domain Name Service).
