Postdoctoral research fellowship in the HERA research project

The international research consortium “East Asian Uses of the European Past” funded under the EU programme Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position at Centro de Estudios de Asia Oriental at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM).
The candidate should hold a PhD in an area of historical or philological humanities and should have sound proficiency and record of research in an East Asian language. The successful candidate is expected to carry out independent research relevant to the objectives of the overall project; to participate in regular meetings, workshops and outreach activities of the group; to help with the modest organisational tasks pertaining to the running of the project; and to closely collaborate with our academic partners at Heidelberg University, University of Zurich and London School of Economics. While we will try to take individual circumstances into consideration, the successful candidate needs to be prepared to reside in Madrid for the duration of the fellowship. The position carries no teaching obligation, but the appointee may opt to offer a course in the East Asian studies programme of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, UAM. We offer intellectually stimulating, informal and lively environment of a small group of internationally visible East Asia scholars and a base in the culturally vibrant capital of Spain with over 300 sunny days a year. The working language of the group is English. The HERA funding for the postdoctoral position is for 12 months. The monthly stipend is stipulated by the rules governing public universities in the Autonomous Community of Madrid. A limited research and travel allowance is part of the overall project budget. The deadline for the applications is February 15, 2018. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview at the end of February (carried out online, if necessary).
