Objectives and Structure

Objectives

The programme's objectives are as follows:

The overarching objective of the Economics and Business Programme is to educate and train highly qualified professionals in the field of economics and business. These professionals will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct research in academic and research institutions, economic institutions, and business organisations. They will be able to contribute to the advancement of economic and business innovation.

The specific aim of the Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business is to enable the completion of a quality doctoral thesis in the generic field of Economics and Business and in the specific field associated with each of the areas of knowledge reflected in it.

Structure

Training Period

The training period of the Doctorate Programme in Economics and Business is made up of official master's degrees in the field of economics and business, such as those taught at the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences of the UAM.

Research Period

The research period will entail the development of an original research project in the field of economics and business, for which a research tutor will be required.

The supervisor of the doctoral thesis must be a member of the teaching and research staff of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the UAM with accredited research experience. In the event that the Director of the Doctoral Thesis does not belong to the Faculty, the student must have a tutor, who may be a lecturer from the Faculty with accredited research experience.

The Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business offers five main avenues for doctoral research:

  1. Accounting and financial analysis
  2. Marketing and business organization
  3. Economic analysis and economic policies
  4. Integration, development, and public and social economy
  5. Applied Modeling to economic-business systems.
  6. Knowledge Management and Innovation

Doctoral students may participate in courses, conferences, seminars and workshops organised by the Doctoral Academic Committee and, therefore, included in the Activities Plan of the Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business or by the centres and groups in which the student carries out his/her research work. In the development of their academic activity, doctoral students must take into account the UAM Guide to Good Research Practices.

From the second year of their enrolment in the Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business, doctoral students may be required by their academic supervisors to present an advance of their research work in the form of a seminar. This presentation must be publicly delivered before the final examination with an examining board.
