Rosario Ortolá Vidal is a researcher in the Cardiovascular and Nutritional Epidemiology Group (Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, UAM and CIBERESP). She is coordinator and professor of “Biostatistics” in the Degree of Biomedical Engineering, and also teaches in the Master of Epidemiology (“Writing a research proposal and a scientific manuscript in health sciences”). Her main research interests are the study of lifestyles, including diet, physical exercise, sedentariness, alcohol consumption patterns, etc., on physical function and health in older adults.

Promoting healthier lifestyles

She is currently involved in the following projects:

  • Role of MITOcondrial dysfunction on the relationship between chronic multimorbidity and FUNctional impairments in older adults (MITOFUN)
  • Casual mechanisms for the relationship of alcohol consumption and unhealthy aging and mortality in older adults
  • The Spanish “Healthy Heart Score”: validation, development and transference to a workplace setting of a lifestyle-based prediction model for primordial prevention of cardiovascular disease
  • Dietary patterns and chronic low back pain in older adults: the role of chronic inflammation, physical morbidity and mental health
  • Metabolomics, genomics and nutrition for personalized medicine in cardiovascular disease
