Leaflet about the Master in Business Administration

(Master in Business Administration, MBA)

Structure and content

The MBA is made up of a total of 60 ECTS credits. It is designed for any undergraduate who wishes to complete their education and acquire leadership and management skills or develop research skills in Business Administration. Students who have not completed undergraduate studies in business management and administration or similar must take an additional 20-credit introductory module during the first term.

The MBA offers two programmes (Business Management and Research) shown in section 6 of the leaflet.

Objectives:

The MBA teaches competent specialists to manage, apply entrepreneurial skills and innovation to businesses in the current knowledge economy. There are two MBA programmes: Business Management and Research.

The Business Manager programme develops students' skills related to problem solving and decision making, change management and strategic management for companies and other organisations.

The research programme develops students' skills so that they are able to contribute to scientific advances within the field of business administration, management and organisation. The research MBA programme is the access route to the Official Doctorate programmes.

Many organisations are looking to employ highly-skilled individuals in the field of management (strategy, production and quality, human resources, technology and innovation). The MBA provides rigorous, international, practical and up-to-date training. 

 

Master structure and content

First term: (October–December) Introductory module for undergraduates who completed degrees that are not related to business administration and management or similar.

20 ECTS credits

Core modules: 4 ECTS credits per module

Business Management and Organisation

  •  Finance for Managers
  •  Accounting Information Analysis
  •  Marketing Strategy
  •  Economics and Business Analysis

Second term: (January – March) 20 ECTS credits

Core modules: 4 ECTS credits per module except Workshop (1 ECTS credit)

  •  Business Strategy and Innovation
  •  Operations and Quality Management
  •  Quantitative Management Methods
  •  Business Internationalisation
  •  Management Skills Workshop (Negotiation and Communication)

Optional modules (3 ECST credits per module; to choose one):

  • Information and Decision Systems
  • Ethics, Business Government and Corporate Social Responsibility

Third term: (April – June) 19 ECTS credits

Core modules: 3 ECTS credits per module except Workshop (1 ECTS credit)

  • Entrepreneurship, Family Business and Creating a Business
  • Business Internationalisation
  • Business Tax Regulations
  • People Management and Organisational Behaviour
  • Management Skills Workshop (Coaching)

Optional modules (3 ECTS per module; to choose two):

  • Organisation sociology
  • Accountancy Management
  • Business Management Simulation
  • Market Research
  • Knowledge Government, Intellectual Capital and Organisational Learning

Fourth term: (October – December) 21 ECTS credits. 

 

Business Management programme

Core modules:

  • Internship: 15 ECTS credits
  • Master's Dissertation: 6 ECTS credits

Research programme

Core modules:

  • Introduction to Research in Business Organisation: 9 ECTS credits
  • Introduction Master's Dissertation: 6 ECTS credits
  • Master's Dissertation: 6 ECTS credits

 

Mobility

Research students are able to undertake part of the programme abroad. Students have the option to study in foreign university at one of the many prestigious universities with which the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid has links or through international agreements established with universities in Latin America, United States, Canada, Asia and Australia. The University also has agreements with European research centres. 

 

Internships:

Students on the Business Management programme will be able to participate in specialised internships during the second year (fourth term or between the third and fourth terms). These internships are carried out by means of agreements that the University has established with companies and associations in Madrid. 

 

Timetable and teaching rooms

The Master takes place in the morning and is full-time.

The classrooms, seminar halls and work rooms are in the module E-VIII on the second floor of the School of Economics and Business and has all of the latest computing and audiovisual technologies.
