University institutes perform research and teaching tasks complementary to those performed by the departments of faculties and schools. Both must be approved by the Governing Council of the University, following a report from the Social Council, and then approved by the Comunidad de Madrid. Of the ten research institutes currently housed at the UAM, one of them is in the Faculty of Economics and Business.
The Lawrence R. Klein Institute for Economic Prediction”, approval was published in the BOCM of 07/07/99, specializes in applied quantitative economic analysis and econometric modelling and has two different centres for the development of its activities: the Gauss Centre and the Stone Centre. The main areas of work in the Centres are the prediction of Spanish and international economics, sectorial and regional analysis, spatial and microterritorial analysis, market studies, migratory flows and economic impact.
