Welcome and presentation

On behalf of the planning committee, we welcome you to the second Symposium on Biomedical Research organized jointly by the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas “Alberto Sols” (CSIC-UAM) and the School of Medicine (UAM), Madrid. The Symposium will take place at the Campus of the School of Medicine on April 17th, 2015 and will focus on the “Advances and Perspectives in Cancer”. This highly dynamic field is characterized by the rapid accumulation of new findings contributing to an improved understanding of the aetiology and pathophysiology of cancer as well as to the development and improvement of novel staging systems and personalized therapeutic strategies. Particular emphasis is put on the participation of both basic and clinical researchers to foster the transmission of new scientific findings into clinical practice.

The meeting will be a stimulating gathering of researchers, post-graduate students and industry sponsors. The Symposium will consist of invited lectures together with poster sessions, providing ample time for discussion both within and outside the scientific and oral sessions.

Bienvenida y presentación

En nombre del Comité Organizador, os damos la bienvenida al segundo Simposio en Investigación Biomédica organizado conjuntamente por el Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas “Alberto Sols” (CSIC-UAM) y la Facultad de Medicina (UAM). El Simposio se celebrará en el Campus de la Facultad de Medicina el 17 de Abril 2015 y se centrará en los “Avances y Perspectivas en Cáncer”. Este campo de investigación se caracteriza por la rápida aparición de nuevos hallazgos que contribuyen a la comprensión de la etiología y fisiopatología del cáncer, así como al desarrollo y mejora de clasificación para nuevas estrategias terapéuticas personalizadas. Se hará hincapié en la participación de investigadores tanto básicos como clínicos para fomentar la translación de los nuevos hallazgos científicos hacia la práctica clínica.

El encuentro reunirá a investigadores, estudiantes de Posgrado y patrocinadores de la industria biomédica. El Simposio consistirá en ponencias invitadas y sesiones moderadas de paneles y comunicaciones orales, incluyendo tiempo para la discusión tanto dentro como fuera de las sesiones.
