Description and Objectives

The University Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) aims to train competent specialists to know how to manage, undertake, and innovate businesses in today's knowledge economy. The Master has two profiles: managerial and researcher.

The manager seeks to develop in the student the necessary skills for decision making, change management and strategic management of companies and other organizations.

The researcher seeks to develop in the student the skills that will allow him/her to contribute to the scientific advancement of the field of Business Administration, Management, and Organization. This profile provides access to the Official Doctorate Programs.

In the immediate future, various organizations need people trained to the highest level in the field of management (Strategic, Production and Quality, Human Resources, Technology, and Innovation). The MBA facilitates their training from a rigorous, international, up-to-date, and practical perspective.

Student profiles

The recommended entry profile is that of graduates in any discipline who show a high degree of interest in business management, with a strong motivation to develop a successful professional or research career in this field.

More specifically, the MBA aims to stimulate interests and create skills for entrepreneurial activities within both organizational and research contexts.

Thus, the Curriculum reflects the set of knowledge areas that, either integrated or separately, pave the way for professional and research development opportunities for the new managers and thinkers of the New Economy.

Professional Training

Currently, MBA graduates are pursuing their professional activities in multiple sectors, indicating a broad range of possibilities to enter management and leadership positions in any type of organization, whether in the public or private sector.

Furthermore, MBA internships are proving to be a significant channel for securing employment opportunities (15 cases of internship continuation) in organizations dedicated to distribution, consulting, finance, tourism, etc., many of them with a relevant focus on innovation.

Programs and Teaching Guides for Subjects

Curriculum information

The program is aimed at graduates in any discipline who wish to enhance their education, acquire managerial and leadership skills, or develop a research profile in Business Administration.

For students with a degree in Business Administration or a similar field (those holding a degree or equivalent in Business Administration and Management, Tourism, Aeronautical Management, Economics and Finance, Finance and Accounting, Financial and Actuarial Economics): 60 ECTS. Classes begin in October.

For students from other degrees: In addition to the 60 credits, additional training components of 20 credits are offered. These training components must be completed and passed by students holding a degree (or equivalent) not included in the following list: Business Administration and Management, Tourism, Aeronautical Management, Economics and Finance, Finance and Accounting, Financial and Actuarial Economics.

However, students with a degree (or equivalent) in the fields of Social and Legal Sciences, as well as Engineering and Architecture, may be exempted from completing and passing one or more of these training components when, at the discretion of the Master's Responsible Commission, the curriculum completed by the student to obtain their degree (or equivalent) includes subjects or courses equivalent to one or more of the mentioned additional training components.

These courses are taken in the first period (only for students who need to complete additional training because they did not come from the previously mentioned studies, starting in September):

In accordance with the agreements by UAM’s Postgraduate Studies Committee, any optional subjects on which less than five students are registered, may not go ahead. The students affected by this situation will be informed accordingly so that they can register on other subjects.

Activities of interest

The MBA program includes visits to different organizations, the presence of national and international speakers to complement the curriculum sessions, as well as the organization of sessions that support students in finding internships and enhance the students' profiles.

In this regard, 9 conferences, 7 seminars, 4 visits, and 4 events are planned, covering topics such as innovation, corporate social responsibility, the new economy, research methodologies, etc. In total, there are more than 20 activities aimed at enhancing the participant's profile in the MBA.

Placements for curricular internships

One of the most valued factors by MBA students and employers is internships (rated 4.6 out of 5), with specific resources in place to support the processes of identifying profiles and potential candidate organizations, which have been functioning excellently.

In this regard, more than 100 companies from 18 different areas of activity are connected with the MBA. Firms such as BMW Madrid, ATOS, Cap Gemini, Accenture, AENA, BNP Paribas, Eulen, Ferrovial, Indra, etc., are examples of organizations that host internships.

Admission application

The application for admission to the Master's program is done electronically through our on-line admissions application. Before starting the admission process it is advisable to consult the following information and follow the instructions described in Admission step by step:

Specific Admission Requirements

Students whose mother tongue is not Spanish must provide a certificate verifying their proficiency, at least at a B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Applicants should submit a motivation letter (maximum 1000 words) stating the reasons for applying to the program, their professional expectations, and, eventually, their research interests. In the case of foreign students, they should explain how the degree will be applied in their home countries upon their return.
Proof of proficiency in the English language.
Proof of knowledge of management information systems and statistical applications.

Certificate of the average grade (2) [Required for students who have not done their access studies at the UAM].
Motivation letter
Proof of Spanish language proficiency at B2 level [Compulsory only for non-Spanish speaking students].
Specialization/Track request for the Master's program
Access Degree: If you have completed your studies at the time of applying for the master's degree, you must attach the degree certificate/diploma, bachelor's degree, or equivalent (or proof of having applied for the degree) in the application.

Optional documents:

Proof of English language proficiency.
Proof of knowledge of management software and statistical applications.

(1) The academic transcript must be translated if it is not in the Spanish language. It will not be necessary to translate documents if they are in English, French, Italian or Portuguese.

In the case of having taken Master’s/Doctoral studies, we recommend including them as additional documents to your application.

(2) If you have studied in Spain, you should attach a Certificate showing the average grade (on a scale of 0 to 10). If you have already studied at UAM, you will not need to submit this certificate.

If you have studied outside of Spain, you will need to submit the average grade equivalence issued by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (see section “related links”).

Admission Criteria

The admission criteria will be weighted according to the following table:

Other requirements for students with non-EU qualifications

When you have been notified about your acceptance on the Master's Degree, and your acceptance is based on a university qualification issued by a higher education institution not belonging to the EHEA, you will need to legalize the qualification via diplomatic channels in order to formalize registration, or by means of a “Hague Convention Apostille”.
