Thesis with International Mention


 

Authorization and defence of a doctoral thesis to obtain the mention “International Doctorate”

 

In order to obtain the mention “International Doctorate” in the Doctorate title, the doctoral candidate must have completed one or more stays for a total period of at least three months outside Spain, in one or more prestigious institutions of higher education or research centers, with the aim of complementing and reinforcing his or her research training. Such institution must be official or accredited. Each individual research stay will have a duration of at least one month

Stays must be carried out after formalizing the first enrolment and after the approval of the Research and Personal Training Plan.

  • Before carrying out the stay, the proposals must be endorsed by the director and by the person with academic responsibility during the stay/s, and authorized by the Academic Committee responsible for the doctoral program. For this purpose, they must complete the forms Research Stay Authorization Request and the  Research Stay Acceptance Form
  • At the end of the stay, the doctoral candidate must submit the Certificate Stay Form and complete the Stay Final Report describing the research activities carried out during the stay.

 

All the documentation mentioned above must be uploaded to the SIGMA section “Document of doctoral activities”, type of activity: “Stay for international mention”.

 

What do I need to present the thesis authorization with International Mention to the Academic Committee of the doctoral program?

 

In addition to the mandatory documentation required for the authorization of all theses, you will need to attach:

  1. Complete the Application for International Mention Application Form, indicating the language chosen for the writing and public presentation of, at least, the abstract and conclusions.
  2.  Certification of having completed a total stay of at least three months outside Spain, in accordance with the requirements (in one or more stays).


The external experts who report the thesis, during the evaluation process by the Academic Committee to authorize the deposit and defense, will belong to a higher education institution or a non-Spanish research institute, different from the institution where the stay/s has/have been developed. The experts will not have joint publications with the doctoral student.

The proposed selection jury must be formed by ,at least, one person and one alternate from a non-Spanish higher education institution or research center located outside Spain, with the title of doctor, and different from those who have exercised academic responsibility for the stays.
