Recognition of previous research
Doctoral students enrolled in the first year of a UAM doctoral program may request recognition of their prior research activity for a period equivalent to the second year, once their Personal Research and Training Plan (PIFP) has been approved, provided that such prior activity makes relevant contributions to the PIFP and they have received a positive evaluation from their first year.
The request, which must be addressed to the Standing Committee of the Graduate School, shall be submitted to the Graduate School (doctorado.gestion@uam.es; Subject: reconocimiento de tutela)
Simultaneously with the submission of the annual supervision report. Prior to the Standing Committee’s approval of the request for recognition, a favorable report from the Academic Committee is required.
Exceptionally, prior research activity may be recognized for a period equivalent to the first year under the following circumstances:
• Proposals for jointly supervised theses initiated at a foreign university may include the recognition of the first year, including the PIFP, based on activities already carried out as part of the thesis at that university.
• In cases where a thesis file is transferred from an official doctoral program at another university, the research plan and the first year may be recognized for continuation at the UAM.
