The Degree in Nursing is a qualification ascribed to the branch of Health Sciences, designed to respond to the profile Nurse Responsible for General Care
  • The study plan for the UAM Nursing Degree has been drawn up in order to guarantee the acquisition of the general aptitudes needed to be able to work as a Nurse in accordance with the legislation in force. These include the following:

    • Provide technical and professional healthcare suited to the health needs of patients, in accordance with up-to-date scientific knowledge and the levels of quality and safety established in the applicable legislation and ethics.
    • Plan and provide nursing care for individuals, families or groups, aimed at the health results, assessing its impact through clinical and healthcare guides of practice that describe the processes through which a health issue is diagnosed, treated or taken care of.
    • Understand and apply the foundations and theoretical and methodological principals of Nursing.
    • Understand the way people behave depending on gender, group or community, within their own social and multicultural context.
    • Design systems of care aimed at individuals, family or groups, assessing their impact and identifying necessary modifications.
    • Base nursing interventions on scientific proof and available means.
    • Understand people without prejudice, taking into consideration their physical appearance, social and psychological characteristics, as independent and autonomous individuals, ensuring that their options, beliefs and values are respected whilst ensuring that their right to intimacy is protected through confidentiality and professional secrecy.
    • Promote and respect the right to participation, information, independence and informed consent in the decision making of patients, in accordance with their own individual experience.
    • Encourage healthy lifestyles and self-care, supporting preventative behaviour and therapy.
    • Protect the health and wellbeing of the individuals, families or groups looked after, guaranteeing their safety.
    • Establish efficient communication with patients, family, social groups and colleagues, and encourage education regarding health.
    • Understand the ethics and code of conduct of the Spanish nursing profession and be aware of the ethical implications of health in the context of an ever-changing world.
    • Understand the principles of funding social and health care and use the resources available suitably.
    • Establish assessment methods, taking into consideration scientific and technical aspects as well as quality.
    • Work as part of team as the basic unit from which healthcare professionals and other staff work, either within the same discipline or as a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary group,
    • Understand the healthcare information systems.
    • Provide nursing care based on a comprehensive view of the patient’s health, involving the cooperation of various professionals and the interlinking of procedures and continual care.
