Resumen/Abstract

Forensic science is the application of scientific techniques to answer legal questions. Data science offers new opportunities throughout the forensic sciences. In this talk, I will give an overview of how we develop, validate and apply such techniques at the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). Applications range from intelligence to investigations and evidence evaluations. Examples include deep learning for DNA profiles, automated recognition of exploded firework, evaluation of cell-site registrations, recommender systems for examiners and automated discovery of new drug synthesis routes.
