Bachelor’s Degree in Law

Skills

The Bachelor’s Degree in Law is a four year degree, requiring 240 ECTS credits and including, as a compulsory module, an internship in a law firm, court or office of the public administration. It is structured around three optional itineraries (Economic Law, Private Law and Public Law).

Interdisciplinary training ensures that Law students understand the role of law in governing relationships in society, are able to interpret legal norms, develop an understanding of the most important national and international institutions (UN, EU, WTO, ECHR, etc.), can resolve case studies, draft legal documents and argue legal cases.

Professional profile

Law graduates are equipped to join law firms and handle matters related to all areas of law. They may also join in-house legal departments of companies or any other public or private institution, contributing their knowledge about the globalised world and the rules which govern it. A Law graduate may opt for a large number of posts in the Public Administration by taking the respective public service examinations (judge, Counsel for the State - Abogado del Estado -, diplomat, notary, registrar, professional posts in Central, Autonomic or Local Government, tax or labour inspector).


Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Public Administration

The Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Public Administration is a four year degree, requiring 240 ECTS credits and including, as a compulsory module, an internship in the best political institutions of the country.

Political Science and Public Administration students will become acquainted with the decision making institutions which govern our lives and countries. Similarly, students learn to weigh up alternatives that public decision makers are often presented with, in national and international contexts. The basis for this is a solid grounding in theory and methodology, as well as a strong sense of ethical awareness and social responsibility.

Professional profile

A Degree in Political Science and Public Administration equips students for a career in political institutions and the public administration, political organisations, lobbies, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, teaching and research, international and external action bodies.


Joint Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Business Administration

The joint degree in Law and Business Administration is offered through the Law Faculty and the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies. It is a six year degree, requiring 360 ECTS credits and including, as a compulsory module, a supervised internship in a company or legal institution.

Skills

The Business Administration training prepares students for managerial, advisory and evaluative roles in productive organisations.

A joint degree in Law and Business Administration equips students for careers in both the public and private sectors. In the private sector, graduates with a joint degree are especially sought after by large law firms, while companies offer a wide range of career opportunities in all sectors of economic activity. In the public sector, graduates in Law and Business Administration have a good chance of success in the various public service examination selection processes (public prosecutor, judge, notary, registrar, tax or labour inspector, Counsel for the State - Abogado del Estado).


Joint Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Political Science and Public Administration

The joint degree in Law and Political Science and Public Administration, adapted to the European context, is a five year degree, requiring 300 ECTS credits and including, as a compulsory module, a supervised internship in a company or legal institution.

The joint Degree in Law and Political Science and Public Administration provides students with the opportunity to acquire basic skills such as resolving case studies, interpreting legal texts, drafting documents, making presentations to a specialised audience or using new technologies. Additionally, students acquire specific skills needed for different professional careers: knowledge of the basis of Western legal systems and the role of law in governing relationships in society; the characteristics of different political systems; the functioning of the public administration and the most important national and international institutions (UN, EU, WTO, ECHR, etc.).

The joint Degree in Law and Political Science and Public Administration equips students for a professional career in both the public and private sectors. In the public sector, they are well placed for public service examination selection processes for legal and administrative bodies: judges, public prosecutors, Counsel for the State - Abogado del Estado -diplomats, public sector posts in Central, Autonomic or Local Government, etc. In the private sector, this training background is attractive to large law firms, in-house legal departments of companies, large consultancy firms and lobbies. Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics

Skills

The Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics is organised by three universities of the Alliance of 4 Universities (A-4U), the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona. The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is expected to join at a later date. The UPF is responsible for academic coordination. In the UAM, the Faculties of Economics and Business Sciences, Law, Philosophy and Literature take part. The academic management of the Degree at the UAM is handled by the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences. It is a four year degree, requiring 240 ECTS credits and with just one group of 40 students (the UPF offers 20 places, the UAM 10 and the UC3M a further 10).

Professional profile

The main aim of the Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics is to prepare students for a career in public and private institutions, where they will need thorough training in political science and economics, together with the critical and moral analytical skills provided by the humanities, especially philosophy.
