Inorganic Chemistry studies the preparation, structure, binding, reactivity, properties and applications of all elements in the periodic table and their compounds, except for certain carbon compounds. Within its broad scope of activities, teachers in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry carry out research on various subjects:

  • Coordination Chemistry
  • Organometallics
  • Bioinorganic Chemistry
  • Science of Materials

The Department borders various disciplines. At present, research interest is focused particularly on nanomaterials with nanoscale electrical properties, organometallic dendrimers with redox activity, chemical and electrochemical synthesis of metallic nanoparticles, photocatalysts, polynuclear compounds, metallodrugs with non-conventional structures and other biological and pharmacological compounds.
The Department of Inorganic Chemistry teaches all the courses for the Undergraduate Chemistry Degrees and also participates in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Degrees, and it achieves consistently high scores in student satisfaction surveys. Practical teaching in the laboratory is one of the fundamental aspects of the Department. At the postgraduate level, the Department of Inorganic Chemistry participates in the Masters Program of Applied Chemistry for the UAM and in the Interuniversity Masters Program in Inorganic Molecular Chemistry.
