Collaborations

Collaborations

The research group has a broad network of national and international collaborations in the research areas of biology and biotechnology, advanced photonics and materials and nanotechnology. Currently the more active ones are:

• Prof. Jose Luis Bella and Dr. Alfonso Blázquez (Department of Biology, UAM), experts in the field of genetics and cellular biology, respectively, with whom many of the biotechnology-related experiments are carried out, such as DNA and cell manipulation.

• Dr. Lisa Miccio, Dr. Sara Coppola and Prof. Pietro Ferraro, from the Institute of Applied Sciences and Intelligent Systems in Naples (Italy). The institute develops an intense activity in biotechnology and photonics. Prof. Ferraro’s group is one of the international leaders in the field of applications of ferroelectric materials, especially, concerning to applications of the pyroelectric effect.

• Prof. M. Angeles Diaz, from the University of Alicante (Spain). She is an expert in organic laser materials with whom we maintain a collaboration concerning the applications in plasmonics.

• Dr. Guillermo Martín-Fuch, from the Institute for Planetary Sciences and Astrophysics of Grenoble (France). We maintain a close collaboration with this group, since they are interested in the development of PVOT for the fabrication of metallic structures for applications in photonic.

• Prof. Vladimir Ya. Shur, director of the Ural Centre for Shared Use “Modern Nanotechnology” at the Ural Federal University, Ekaterinburg (Russia). He is an expert in ferroelectric domain reversal and fabrication of periodically poled structures. On the other hand, the Ural Centre for Shared Use “Modern Nanotechnology” has a wide range of equipment for the characterization of nanostructures, which is accessible within the collaboration. Furthermore, the collaboration has been reinforced by means of an international cooperation agreement between the UAM and the Ural Federal University.

• Prof. Kasten Buse, director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques IPM and professor at the University of Freiburg. He is an expert in optical applications of lithium niobate and lithium tantalate.

• Dr. Gastón García, director of the Centro de Microanálisis de Materiales (CMAM), and Dr. José Olivares, Staff Researcher from the Instituto de Optica (CSIC) and from the CMAM. We keep a close cooperation concerning the use of ion irradiation techniques for the processing of ferroelectric materials and platforms and the fabrication of optical waveguides.

• Prof. Cornelia Denz, from the Münster University (Germany). Her group is very active in the field of optical and optoelectronic tweezers.

• Prof. Arman Mitchel, from the RMIT University (Australia). He is an expert in domain engineering of lithium niobate for photonic and phononic applications.

• Prof. Gladis Mínguez, from the Jaume I University, Castellón (Spain). She is an expert in the field of optics and photonic and, specially, in nanoparticle fabrication by laser ablation.

• Prof. Roger S. Cudney, from the Optics Department of the Centro de Investigación Científica y Educación Superior de Ensenada (CICESE, Mexico), because of his experience in ferroelectric domain reversal and the development of periodically poled structures.
