Innovation

Innovación

The IUCE plays a distinctive role as a space of academic excellence in developing high-quality innovation in education, teaching and teacher development, owing to the strong links between our education research undertaking and the current professional teaching practice.  Two main reasons lie behind the excellence-led innovation profile of our institution. On the one hand, the vast majority of IUCE academic researchers are current educators at different levels of the education system. On the other hand, practising school teachers and teaching professionals working across all educational phases are involved in most of our activities and projects.

At IUCE, educational innovation is focused on developing innovative proposals that may prove effective at solving noticeable problems. Thus, these proposals may produce outcomes that must therefore be assessed, need to be sustainable in time and adjustable to be applicable in a variety of settings and contexts. All these are key quality features according to UNESCO’s advisory principles of good practice.

Whenever educational innovation is fairly oriented and rigorous, it helps contribute to enhancing quality standards in education and brings positive social impact and benefits in the educational process.

The IUCE undertakes educational innovation proposals that not only target continual professional development and classroom teaching at schools, collaboration networks, and teacher education programmmes, but also include designing of educational materials and resources.

The major distinctive strand of innovation at IUCE has been implemented across the successive designing of teacher training programmes. This was historically the ICE`s sphere of innovative action, and it is currently the IUCE`s one. Both institutions have carried out outstanding innovative projects, some of which have been extended throughout the country and still remain today, whereas the other have been developed worldwide.

In broader terms, innovation at the IUCE is undertaken in domains including competency-based teaching and learning and the teachers’ use of ICT to further pupils’ learning in formal educational settings. Also, cutting-edge innovation projects are performed on the use of technology in informal educational settings.

It is within this framework that thematic strands of innovation are developed.
