Occupational Health and Safety Service

Description

To comply with the employer's obligation to prevent occupational risks, this service carries out the planning of the preventive action and employee health care. These actions are carried out by means of assessing the risks in each job, which is carried out by the Technical area and employee health surveillance regarding the risks of each post is carried out by the Occupational Health area.

Occupational Health Area (Medical Service)
The Occupational Health Area is made up by:

  • Dr. María Luisa Arias García (specialist in Occupational Health and Consultant)
  • Margarita Revuelta Martínez (Nurse specialised in Occupational Health)
  • Ana Mª González Rojo (Emergency Nurse, specialised in Occupational Health)
  • Begoña Miján Ramos (Clerk).


Safety, Hygiene and Ergonomics/Applied Psychology Technical Area
The technical area is made up by a Technician from the UAM and two external Technicians:

  • Isabel Martínez Cabañas. Senior Technician in Occupational Risk Prevention.
  • Almudena de la Peña Zamorano. Senior Technician in Occupational Risk Prevention.
  • Mar Vázquez Rodríguez. Senior Technician in Occupational Risk Prevention.
Main activities

Occupational Health Area (Medical Service)
It is in charge of monitoring and promoting the health of all the UAM's employees, by means of periodically carrying out individual check-ups, specifically taking into account each employee's risks. It also attends to the incidents and emergencies that occur in the university campus, organising and supervising when necessary their derivation to the specialised health centre.

It carries out preventive campaigns “vaccinations, gynaecology, urology, skin cancer”, as well as training courses in areas related to prevention and occupational health.

Health, Hygiene and Ergonomics/Applied Psychology Technical Area
Amongst its functions are promoting preventive actions, carrying out risk assessments and planning, and training and informing on the specific risks of the work places and positions.
It also carries out the self-protection plans, organises the fire-drills, and coordinates the maintenance of the firefighting equipment.
It manages the removal and elimination of the toxic and hazardous waste in the university.
This service also coordinates the management of the University's radioactive installations.
